With the rapid development of automobile industry, various kinds of functional parts and accessories of a car are developing towards intelligence, refinement and reliability. Higher requirements and certain design criteria have been put forward for the structural design, appearance design and material of connector for cars.
Connector for cars must comply with the USCAR-20 standard, which is the performance standard of the connector for cars system, stipulating that the connect for cars should be reliable throughout the service circle. It includes the following eight factors.
1. The material of the connector contact is stable and reliable;
2. Positive force is stable;
3. Voltage and current of the circuit is stable;
4. The temperature shall be within the prescribed range, including the surrounding temperature and its own temperature rise;
5. The connect for cars must be the same as those used for high-speed long-distance communication computers and be able to work reliably under harsh conditions;
6. Connector insertion force: less than 20.5kg;
7. Holding force of connector: more than 2.5 kg;
8. Heat resistance: -40~120℃.
A typical light vehicle has about 1,500 connections, 50 to 60 percent of which are used for critical distribution functions. Connector for cars is used in increasingly harsh environments, including temperature (as low as -40℃ and as high as 155℃ above zero), vibration, oxidation and frictional corrosion, which shows the importance of connector performance.
In fact, this is not an easy thing to do. Most commercial electronic components are just frustrating when they fail, but problems with connector for cars will bring about malfunction of fire alarm, brakes or airbag, leading to serious consequences.
Manufacturer of connecter for cars must identify and analyze physical and mechanical phenomena in the environment that may affect the connector performance and test the stability of connector for cars under the application conditions specified by the automobile manufacturer.
